Plone

Plone - an Open Source Content Management Framework

Based on the scripting language Python and the application server Zope.

It has gained much popularity in the last years and is used by companies and institutions such as Novell, the CIA, NASA, Discover Magazine and many more.

COM.lounge is doing Plone projects since the very beginning of Plone and has been a contributor to the Plone codebase for years.

Python

Python - an object-oriented, popular, Open Source scripting language

invented by Guido van Rossum in the early 1990s. It is in wide use companies using it include Google, Industrial Light and Magic or NASA.

COM.lounge is doing Python based development since it's beginning in 2000 and even before that Christian Scholz used it since 1996.

Python is our main focus and most solutions we do are based on this scripting language. Moreover we are active in many open source projects using it, such as Plone, Zope, pyogp or pydataportability to name just a few.

Our dedication to this language is also shown in the fact that we help organizing the annual EuroPython conference.

Zope

Zope is an Open Source application server built on the scripting language Python

It offers flexibility and powerful features which is the reason why we have choosen it. Plone and many other projects are built on top of it.

COM.lounge uses Zope since the year 2000 (and Christian Scholz even used it before founding COM.lounge) and we have been attending many Zope meetings like e.g. the first European Zope meeting held in Paris in 2000.

COM.lounge offers hosting and consulting around this application server.

COM.lounge is also member of the German Zope Usergroup DZUG and ZEA Partners, both dedicated to spread the word about Zope.

Django

Django is a modern web framework built on top of Python.

It is gaining in popularity these days also thanks to the possibility to run it on the Google AppEngine.

Django is e.g. used for the popular Twitter-cl one Pownce or our own solution for the "Tag des offenen Denkmals".

Since 2007 COM.lounge is also implementing solutions on top of Django or the "sister"-frameworks Pylons and Turbogears.

Second Life

Second Life is a 3D virtual world created by Linden Lab and is rising in popularity

There is only a small chance you haven't heard about it yet.

The applications of virtual worlds are many, like marketing, shared collaboration, connecting with your clients and so on.

COM.lounge is active in virtual worlds since 2006 (esp. Second Life) and is also part of the Architecture Working Group which aims to create an open, standardized protocol for interconnecting virtual worlds. This is called the Open Grid protocol and COM.lounge has just launched syntronik.de, the first native Agent Domain based on this protocol.

COM.lounge also aims to bridge the gap between the web and virtual worlds by bringing technologies such as Plone/Zope and Second Life together.
